Law Reform

Due to the current criminalised sex industry framework, one of the most important elements of SIN’s health promotion mandate is lobbying for the full decriminalisation (decrim) of the South Australian sex industry.

Decriminalisation is the action or process of removing something from the criminal code. It’s important to note that decrim does not mean the removal of regulations. Under decriminalisation, the sex industry would be subject to all other existing and applicable legislation.

Decriminalisation has been shown as the best legislative framework for the health and wellbeing of sex workers. Decriminalisation provides sex workers with autonomy and self-determination, as well as access to support systems and services not available within a criminalised framework.

Sex workers deserve industrial rights and recognition. SIN has been lobbying for decriminalisation for over 30 years.

SIN would like to acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional custodians of the Adelaide region, where we live and work, and recognise the Kaurna peoples’ cultural, spiritual, physical, and emotional connection with their land. We honour and pay our respects to Kaurna elders, both past and present, and all generations of Kaurna people, now and into the future. We acknowledge that this land was stolen, and sovereignty was never ceded.
